Open Notebook does not currently plan to support PostgreSQL with pgvector as an alternative primary database. The accepted architecture decision is documented in ADR-001: SurrealDB as the database. SurrealDB currently combines document storage, graph relationships, vector search, and parts of the background-job infrastructure while keeping self-hosting to fewer services. The trade-offs and explicit conditions under which that decision would be reconsidered are tracked in #372. Closing this Q&A as answered. New operational evidence about the current database decision is still welcome in #372. |
