Application by: dried_date

What is your project, and what problem does it solve?

Over the past months, we have been actively collaborating with the Livepeer protocol team to execute key security-related milestones as outlined in our first grant.

More details can be found here (due to character limit of the form)

Please describe in more detail why this proposal is valuable for the Livepeer ecosystem

At MakerDAO, we have served as core contributors to protocol security — implementing safeguards, auditing and testing systems, and assisting with deployment configurations. We’re now taking on a similar role within the Livepeer ecosystem, as discussed in the Protocol Security SPE thread. This would further secure the Livepeer ecosystem for the foreseeable future.

Please describe in details what your final deliverable for this project will be.

As the Advisory Board is still in its initial phase, the grant is scoped around high-priority and time-sensitive items. We retain flexibility, as in Grant 1, to take on additional items where capacity and opportunity align.

High Level Scope (details in Milestones):
1. Security Issues R&D
2. Reward Delegation
3. On-Chain Ticket Distinction
4. Flexible Scope Additions

How will this deliverable benefit the Livepeer ecosystem?

Reward Call Delegate

  • Finalize a comprehensive and well-structured specification document.
  • Collaborate with Victor to develop and iteratively refine a working prototype.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and simulations of the prototype on a testnet environment.
  • Deliver a clear and detailed proposal outlining the prototype design, its limitations, and alternative approaches that were considered but not pursued.

Flexible Scope Additions

  • As hours allow, Sidestream will proactively contribute to other high-priority protocol security items, including:
    • Triaging of other Immunifi reports
    • Testnet-based simulations
    • Enhancements to ticket distinction logic
      • Any other work identified as critical by the core protocol team or Advisory Board
    • Conceptualise Protocol Security and Engineering SPE proposal

Specify your team's long-term plans to maintain this software and upgrade it over time

via. SPE, but in any case technical stakeholders from the Foundation (Rick) are in the loop

Please describe (in words) your team's relevant experience, and why you think you are the right team to build this project. You can cite your team's prior experience in similar domains, doing similar dev work, individual team members' backgrounds, etc.

  • Sidestream has successfully worked with Livepeer (Doug, Rick, Victor) for the past 3 months

  • Besides, Sidestream has been part of MakerDAO/Sky for almost 4 years and responsible for protocol security work for the last 3 years. On the one hand, we bring in a lot of relevant experience and processes and on the other hand we are a sustainable business that would be a super reliable security partner for Livepeer. Below, you can find relevant actions and knowledge that we can bring to Livepeer based on our Sky work

Who is your target user group? How do you plan on getting your users to use this?

Support the protocol engineering team

How did you learn about the Livepeer Grants Program?

This is our follow-up grant. But initially, Stablelab connected Livepeer and Sidestream. Doug and others vetted us. Rich then suggested using the grants program as the next step.

Was this project started at a hackathon or another web3 event? Which one?

Some issues were identified during grant 1, some came from the Livepeer team.

Please include any additional information that you think would be useful in helping us to evaluate your proposal.
