October not recognizing my Clara BW

It says "Unknown Kobo" when I connect it. It works fine, but it has that detail. Is Clara BW already supported? I was looking into the code to see if there's any list of devices but I didn't find it. Also, my Kobo has some modifications (I added Nickelseries and Nickelclock), I was wondering if that would interfere with the detection.

Hey Sunno,

For starters, despite the "Unknown Kobo" mention, the device name is purely just for visuals and doesn't change any behaviour at all.

The list of "known" devices comes from an open-source library with the list being visible here: https://github.com/pgaskin/koboutils/blob/3392decd542abd34d22b4fe4480a13ba206a00bd/kobo/device.go#L35-L69

Interestingly, the Clara BW seems to be supported in there and I'm using the latest version so my first question would be whether you're running a newish version of October?

You can find the version by going to the application tab on macOS and hitting About or by inspecting the file properties on Windows. You can also find it at the bottom of the Settings page (within October itself) on relatively newer versions.

I don't imagine that usage of Nickel should make any difference as the device detection is just done by checking a text file on your device.

The most useful thing would be if you could connect your Kobo to your computer and then share the contents of the file that should live at <kobo>/.kobo/version

It should contain some text describing the device etc which is what powers the device identifier

Yes, I'm using the latest October Build: v1.12.2 (windows amd64) , and my version file contains this N365563031453,4.9.77,4.43.23418,4.9.77,4.9.77,00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000391. I see in the link you provided that the 391 number is a match.
