Assigning customer to the company

Hi,
I'm not sure how does assignment of the employe to the company works. After I created the admin company account, how do I assign other accounts to the same company? I see that I can assign people from backend panel, but will the be linked to accounts using e-mail as match key?
"Company" field is required during account registration, why is that?
I haven't tested e-mail invitations, do they work in production? I'm testing locally and I get pop-up - "not implemented" while trying using it.

Company name should be required if it is b2b shop.

That is correct, but gets problematic if different people from the same company register. The "company" object is created after the user registration, so we would have two companies with same name, what could cause troubles. Is there any mechanism for grouping people from the same company implemented and not making the admin automatically?
