[Bug] Camera Orientation Incorrect

Prerequisites

• I have searched for similar issues before creating this one
• I am using the latest version of Capacitor Camera View

Current behavior

Camera photo captured stays in the incorrect orientation after device rotation

Expected behavior

Camera preview should re-orient correctly when device rotates

Steps to reproduce

• Open camera view with orientation locking enabled or disable
• Rotate device (portrait → landscape / reverse)
• UI and captured photo do not adjust orientation correctly

@aditya-singh-o7 I am not sure if I understand you correctly but I think this is working as expected. If you lock orientation then it will not turn the photo either because photo orientation is based on the orientation of the app.

If you mean that it should behave like the native camera apps? they (at least on IOS) behave a little bit different because I think they use the gyroscope sensor or something like that to still adapt orientation even if the screen orientation lock is on, but this is nothing I want to implement here actually.

@michaelwolz On certain Android phones, the captured photo was automatically rotated despite the orientation being locked…for now I permanently lock rotation when camera open

This might depend on the EXIF data the device is attaching to the photo. I think the picture orientation is determined by this only. This might differ for different Android phones.

@michaelwolz can u provide exifr image data currently it showing undefiend no exifr data present with image..if i get image is rotated to some xyz degree i will revert to rotation will this solve my problem ?

@aditya-singh-o7 I depends on whether you are using saveToFile option or not. For the default mode returning a base64 encoded image, there will be no exif information. The saveToFile option will take the image as is from the camera system, while base64 will need some manual rotation But this has worked on all my Android test devices just fine. If this is not working on some device type, there is probably some mismatch with the provided rotation parameters here.

Can you just try showing the webPath and see if it's working there?

The exif data should be encoded in the image itself. If it's not there the camera system did not provide it. The web browser will automatically use the exif information in order to rotate the image.

So for example this is the exact same image with different exif infos:

top-left (normal)	right-top (rotated 90°)

@michaelwolz I tried saveToFile and it’s working fine — the image is no longer rotating by default.
However, when using Base64, the image still appears rotated on some devices and I’m not sure why.

I also extracted the EXIF data. When using saveToFile, the EXIF looks correct and the orientation shows as 0.
