Tail keeps sizing to 0 half way through

Everytime the physics runs, it sizes half the tail to zero

The base setting fixes it, but I'd still like to know what happened.

Update: It seems to be caused by the "Tail caddy" node's wiggle turned off


How could I keep the caddy off?
