Even if it is possible that negative citation timespan exist, it would be good to check them, since some can be actually mistakes in the source data.
For instance see the citations of 10.1111/j.1601-5223.1996.00099.x. Here there are at least two examples, i.e. oci:020010008003600000201080803093701090907370101010000090209-0200101010136193701060001630502020337010909063700000009093733 and oci:0200100080036000809020700010437020000003709050202080003-0200101010136193701060001630502020337010909063700000009093733, that have a negative citation timespan, and this seems to be due to the data originally contained in Crossref that are not correct.
