How to make sure that kmod package will work after kernel upgrade?

As noted in #17924, the kmod package fails to work for EL 9.7 distros. I only noticed it after some apps threw errors for missing data. When I was using the dkms package, I'll get errors while upgrading the kernel, but there were none in this case. (Or maybe I missed it?) I'm running an older version of the kernel for now.

For the future, how do I make sure that zfs will work with the new version of the kernel after reboot?
