Hello G.W. Sorry to hear about the trouble. The steps you took should have given you a clean slate. When you receive the error message, does it give you the option to "Debug"? If so, it should open a window with a line of code highlighted. Can you please post that to this ticket? Thanks! Tom Ventimiglia |

I've been trying to let go of "should have" in the MSFT context for years now ;-) The line the debugger stops on reads: LookupDialog.LookupRange.Value = sSourceRange. Here it is visually:

Thanks, this is helpful. The good news is I don't think the issue was caused by installing the plugin while Excel was still running, so no need to blame yourself. It may be a compatibility issue. Can you please let me know what version of Windows you are running, what version of Excel, and if it is 32- or 64-bit? (You can see this by going to the Home tab, clicking "Account" in the left sidebar, then clicking the "About Excel" button. Tom |

Thank you. It turns out you are not the only one experiencing this type of error. The solution is not immediately obvious, but I will investigate. However, I may not have an answer before the weekend. Thanks for your patience. One other question - is this your first time installing the plugin, or were you updating a previous (working) edition? It was my first time. I saw it in a presentation yesterday and had to start exploring it immediately. |

Hello again, Sorry for not updating this issue last week. I have been looking into it more. I wanted to ask you for another screenshot of a dialog. When you get a chance, can you please do the following?
Can you please attach a screenshot showing the information in that dialog? Thanks! |

No worries re your turnaround time. It would be rude to complain about free tech support. Here's the cap:

And here's that folder's contents (I have hidden files showing):

Hello again,
Sorry for not updating this issue last week. I have been looking into it more. I wanted to ask you for another screenshot of a dialog. When you get a chance, can you please do the following?
* After opening Excel, type Alt+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor.
* Click "VBAProject (CatalogLookup.xlam)" in the left sidebar.
* Open the "Tools" menu and select "References..."
* A dialog should appear with a list in which the first several entries are checked. If there is one called "Ref Edit Control", click it once so that the bottom of the dialog populates with more detailed information about that control.
Can you please attach a screenshot showing the information in that dialog? Thanks!

YAY! I see the large, lovely Look up in Catalog dialog box! I look forward to seeing my colleagues drool a little when I show this off. Thank you so much.
Regards,
G.W.

Thanks very much! I have an idea of what the problem might be. I have made a change to the main dialog, and included it in the beta release of the plugin. Can you please download and install the version below and let me know if it works for you?
https://github.com/pulibrary/ExcelAlmaLookup/releases/download/v1.4.0-beta/CatalogLookupInstaller.exe
The main dialog will look slightly different than what is described in the documentation, as this beta version also includes other new features, such as multi-index searching. I am actually going to post some documentation on this new version later today. But I first wanted to confirm that your bug is resolved in the beta as well. Thanks again!

Hi, Tom,
The session where I learned about the tool was offered by our statewide university and college libraries consortium, https://flvc.org/.
I hope that someone will be able to set up the Alma access point next week so our department can start learning and using the tool.
Regards,
G.W.

Great news. I appreciate your patient screen-shooting and the details your provided. And this should (hopefully) solve a similar issue reported by another user.
Just out of curiosity, what was the presentation where you heard about this? Was it something public, or internal to your institution? I saw some increased traffic on the site around the time of your message, so I thought perhaps others who attended the same event also tried downloading it. Hopefully they did not encounter the same issue...

Hello, good people,
Even though I know better, I managed to run CatalogLookupInstaller.exe without closing Excel. When I try to start the tool, the VBA debugger appears letting me know that at line 209 there is a "Compile error: Method or data member not found."
I have tried running the Uninstall.exe, manually deleting the .xlam file, and manually deleting the entire AppData\Roaming\Excel Local Catalog Lookup folder. After I reinstalled using the installer.exe, the error recurs.
Does anyone know how I could fix the problem that I caused for myself?
Regards,
G.W.
