scan: line 413:scanadf: command not found

Hi all,

i have installed sane-scan-pdf and sane on my raspberry pi device, but running into the following issue:
/home/matthias/sane-scan-pdf/scan: line 413: scanadf: command not found
Found no scans.

Same problem on raspberry pi os or Ubuntu server. All depedencies installed. Scanimage is running fine. Any suggestions?

Actually, looks like scanadf on Ubuntu is provided by the sane package.

Thanks! When installing the Sane package (on ubuntu and raspberry pi os) fails with the following error:

sudo apt install sane
Unable to locate package sane.

Any suggestions what to do?

Hmm, what is the output of cat /etc/os-release?

Ah, you are on Debian, not Ubuntu.

I'm sorry I don't know whether Debian includes scanadf. The search indicates it does not:

https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=trixie&arch=any&searchon=contents&keywords=scanadf

You'll probably want to work with your distribution's support channels to figure this out. The upstream sane-frontends project is what provides scanadf, see https://gitlab.com/sane-project/frontends/tree/master.

I did the same on Ubuntu:

cat /etc/os-release

sudo apt update
sudo apt search sane:

sane/questing,now 1.0.14-18ubuntu1 arm64 [installiert]

But still:
scanadf: Befehl nicht gefunden. (not found)

It looks like Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble) has it:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=noble&arch=any&mode=exactfilename&searchon=contents&keywords=scanadf

but you are running 25.10 (Questing) and this version does not:

I don't know why they would not have included it given that upstream provides this. Seems like a packaging bug to me. I found this existing issue on the Ubuntu bug-tracker and I've commented there -- but please also upvote it and register your interest there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-frontends/+bug/2112497.

Make sense. So i moved to 24.04 and move somehow forward. Scan button triggers the script, but fails with the following:

scanadf: attempted to set inactive option page-height
Found no scans.
(ADF is filled).

Any idea?
