That's is not an exact quotation:

This makes sense because we only need to read rect2 (rather than write, which would mean we’d need a mutable borrow), and we want main to retain ownership of rect2 so we can use it again after calling the can_hold method.

What is unclear exactly? Note that yours says immutable borrow and this one says mutable borrow.

In other words, were we mutating rect2 we would need it to be mutable. Since we do not mutate it, we just need read permissions.
