Description
The process of ingestion of the data/dataset in the archive (OAIS model, ISO 14721 http://www.oais.info/) implies the creation of metadata as part of the Information Package, suitable for the specific archive (defined in turn wrt a community of interest). The mapping, however is not neutral: information may be lost due to an incomplete mapping of the metadata elements, or of their value (eg. a qualified schema specifying a thesaurus or vocabulary for expressing values). The format of the object may also be affected. Even if we keep the link to the original object and metadata, the copyright owner and custodian should be able to inspect the metadata generation process and format conversion.
