Sort by individual criteria

I would like an additional sort criteria, one that is flexible for individual needs.
For my own purposes I divert the copyright field for that. I adjusted the plugin with a few lines of code to make it work. However, for every new release I have to reapply my adjustments. That's why I am suggesting here to make it an official feature.
