Handover Github project?

I really(!) want to use Stencil in a large project at a large company where we're using Swift on the server - but it doesn't seem like the original maintainer has the time/resource anymore.

Rather than have the project splinter into various forks, is there a way to get this project active again, perhaps by expanding the privileges on the repo to others that would enjoy sharing the maintenance/PR review/merge responsibilities?

This project seems to be unmaintained. I want to thank @kylef and all contributors for their great work on Stencil over the years — maintaining open source is hard, and the community has benefitted a lot from their efforts.

Since there has been no response to this issue for several months, it’s reasonable to assume we won’t get further feedback from the current maintainers. Meanwhile, the risk of the project splintering across multiple forks is growing, which would fragment the community and slow progress.

To provide a shared path forward, I created a new GitHub organization: Swift Stencil. The first repository is swiftstencil/swiftpm-stencil, and I’m looking for co-maintainers. If you use Stencil and want to see it thrive again, please join in — whether through issues, PRs, or discussion.

The goal is not to replace this project, but to provide a place where users and contributors can continue collaborating until we have clarity. If the original maintainers would prefer to take the lead again, or if they’d like to endorse another path, we’d be very happy to align with that. In the meantime, anyone interested in helping maintain and improve Stencil is welcome to join.

I love this. @trbernstein - I'd love to join. I have plans to implement a stencil LSP server for use with editors like neovim, etc. The new org could be a great place for it to live, and I'd be happy to help support Stencil's future more generally.

@ben-p-commits Thanks so much — that’s wonderful to hear! I’d be very happy to have you on board. An LSP server for Stencil sounds extremely valuable, and the new organization would be a perfect home for it.

I’ll add you to the Swift Stencil org. Once you’re in, feel free to create a repo for the LSP server, open design discussions, or draft an initial roadmap.

My hope is that we can build a small but active group of maintainers who keep Stencil healthy, modern, and well-supported across the Swift ecosystem. Looking forward to working together!
