How are events defined #415

A question/comment by Saul Greenberg (maintainer of Timelapse):

More generally, can I suggest that the camtrapDP specs be updated to specify more clearly how events are defined (i.e., where an event can be both a single image and a sequence of images) and how the csv files should be created, particularly in the observation.csv output? To explain, when I coded Timelapse against CamtrapDP, I tried to follow the specs as written. I interpreted ‘event’ from the specs as meaning a sequence of images (e.g. “eventID = Identifier of the event the observation belongs to” and “event for event-based observations that consider an event (comprising a collection of media files).” , and didn’t envisage a scenario where it could be interpreted differently as you describe below. My narrower interpretation also passed the CamtrapDP validation tests…

This is something we should address in:

  • The definitions/spec
  • The FAQ
