Recording Airline flights

I was on a Jet flight recently. I was in the window seat, using OwnTracks, I could see that I could get good coordinates with low error - 7-22ft, and I could see from the logs, that I had a good connection back home, and that coordinate data was being sent.

Flight mode is on in Geopulse, but I didn't see any data points during the flight, only as we were taxiing at each airport. What should I check in Geopulse to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Hello,

How do you connect OwnTracks to Geopulse? HTTP or MQTT? Are you sure there is no queue pending on Owntracks side? Usually if it fails to deliver a message it keeps that gps point in a queue. I will let you know what messages to check in the geopulse-backend logs

I connect OwnTracks to my VPS via mqtt (public traffic over TLS), and Geopulse is connected to that mqtt server (over a VPN). No queue pending that I can see, as it started right up once I was at my destination.

If you're sure that OwnTracks was active during the flight but you don't see GPS points in the system please check the logs from geopulse-backend for that period of time and try to find messages like Received MQTT message on topic. If you don't see such messages it means that GeoPulse backend server didn't receive anything. So either there was a problem with MQTT broker (but after landing you see the GPS data so it's unlikely) or nothing was sent to GeoPulse at all.

We have such filtration (disabled by default) which also could be the reason why you don't see the messages:

Thanks, after another flight, I confirmed it was the speed filtering. I had turned this on to take care of inaccurate locations while in the car, and didn't think about the speed filtering at that time. I cranked up speed filtering to allow for flights. Thanks!
