Are there plans to export tokio-metrics to an opentelemetry backend?

I am working on #68 to integrate with metrics.rs. I don't think there is anyone right now working on integrating opentelemetry.

Curious why an integration with metrics.rs was chosen over a similar integration with OTel? For better or worse, OTel is becoming the observability standard.

Ariel implemented the metrics.rs integration because it's what we needed for our use case. We would gladly accept a PR for a similar OTel integration.
