Ok so full disclosure, I like countless others felt the need to resort to hacking the update system to bits with a machete before coming across more elegant solutions like yours outlined here.
My approach worked, but now I get countless "Windows Update Medic Service service failed to start" system errors, but I feel like I've exhausted the extent of my own knowledge as far as what I could safely delete/disable/rename/etc. Quite a bit of these errors seem to be stemming from TaskHost.exe processes, which to me at least doesn't really illuminate all that much.
Does anybody know all sources that invoke WaaS that could be additionally disabled?
