vscodium not using system-ui font on bazzite gnome

When I install vscodium-linux and run it the file explorer, menu items, all ui elements are rendered with a monospace font.

Not Noto Sans, which appears to be the system-ui default

I have a debian distrobox setup to use my hosts brew as a volume. When I run vscodium from there it looks how I expect it.

It seems like, for whatever reason, vscodium can't access my system fonts?

I found a workaround which is to install NotoSans in my home directory. Not super ideal but I see that this has been labelled as a bug so that's great.
