Icons of Slack and Signal no longer shown?

Since a few days the icons of "Slack" and "Signal" are no longer shown. Sometimes (but not always!) three dots "..." are shown for a few seconds but vanish soon. The icons of "Kopia" and "Telegram" are always shown without issues though.

All four applications are installed via Flatpaks.

This is on Debian "testing", GNOME shell 50.2.

I see nothing I can correlate to this in the journal ...

Any idea what's going on here and/or how I can try to debug this further?

Interestingly, while playing with this and disabling/re-enabling the extension itself and the global GNOME shell extension switch, the icon of "Slack" reappeared.

But "Signal" is still now showing (as it was before, "ever since"):

Same issue with Slack.
My GNOME Shell is 50.1 and I'm on Ubuntu 26.04. Latest version of the extension. Until last week it was working flawless, but know I have same behavior for Slack.
Other apps like Bitwarden shows the icon properly and I can interact with it.
Slack version is the latest one, updated end of July, so no changes from Slack side in last week to explain the issue.

Based on this comment (flathub/org.signal.Signal#1131 (comment)), a temporary workaround is to grant Signal this DBus permission:

sudo flatpak override \
  --own-name=org.freedesktop.StatusNotifierItem-2-1 \
  org.signal.Signal

After restarting Signal, I can also confirm it works.

I'm having the same issue; solaar is showing normally while Slack/Signal don't.

I've traced it down a bit and in this Signal Issue 7992 there's interesting background info and the upstream problem has been fixed in Electron 44.0.0 as mentioned here.

So at it seems like we'll have to wait for our affected applications to target that new Electron version.

As mentioned on Electron issue 52674 the last working version was 43.2.
Affected Electron versions therefore would be >= 43.3 and < 44.0. Edit: I just realized that the fix appears to have been added to Electron 43.4.1 as well, which is part of the latest Signal Release v8.25.0 from just a few hours ago.

As it's an upstream issue, the fault is not on the appindicator extension.

I have the same problem with Signal but also with Element
