An online community's custom Google My Maps file was taken down by Google for unknown reasons. We are considering changing over to umap, but loading the map in view mode by default is counterintuitive, and requires extra work from the user to change modes from view to edit.

A possible solution is a setting toggle for the map to be opened in edit mode instead of default mode.

A popup instructing new users to click on / tap the pencil in the top right to enter edit mode. It's still a step in between them adding new locations to the map.

The map we are trying to make will be publicly editable by default. A map where only certain authors can make edits may cause problems with this additional functionality.
