Indycar not showing correctly

I don't think I'm doing it wrong..... but maybe it's a data issue.

I can create an entity which will generate this URL at the bottom, which has valid data.

This will show valid data, but nothing is showing up in Home Assistant. There is a race this weekend in Phoenix.

Perhaps this is due to ESPN not having any drivers associated with this?

OK, so this is an API issue. The endpoint now has driver data populated, I assume after qualifying finished.

It seems it's entirely dependent on there being driver data present, which maybe is a flaw?

Now the race data shows, as well as the top 2 qualifiers in the widget (would be nice to be able to hide that, but that's for another day)

Correct. The API race data does not get populated until qualifying is done and the field is set.

You can use card_mod to hide whatever elements on the card you want.

The Indycar API seems unreliable, They don't seem to update the status of the drivers, which this add-on seems to rely on until after qualifying.

is it possible and not too difficult to decouple this from the drivers and just pick up the schedule elements instead?

There's a race in Arlington TX right now and even after practice 1, it still shows as no events happening.

So basically, you want the pre-information w/o the drivers? I might be able to make this work but it will take a lot of thought on how to make it compatible w/ other sports and even other racing leagues (I believe F1 shows the qualifying for example. I'll leave this open so I don't forget it. Are there multiple Indy races that happen around the same time at different locations?

Hopefully I am phrasing this correctly...

The end result is that I would like to see what race is coming up next. The way that motorsport seems to behave is that it also needs driver entities to be present. For whatever reason the ESPN API will only show the Indycar driver list once qualifying is complete. My only guess is that the driver lineup is not 100% set until qualifying has been completed. This makes it hard to use the Indycar card to see when the next race is.

It looks like the API data for Indycar behaves like the traditional sports do outside of a race week. There is an events entity and not much else. Could the events entity be used for the scheduling? This seems to be similar to how the team sports work. The schedule data is there, just not being pulled by TT right now

Personally I'm not as tied to the driver data, but that's just me.... I actually hide the card during the IN and POST status, as I often watch the race on delay and want to avoid spoilers.

Improved messaging in v0.17.0 to reduce confusion and make it clear driver not found due to qualifying not being complete. There are other card specific to racing you may want to look at like Formula One Card.

Thank you, this is looking better.

Interestingly it's picking up the last race in the time period - Grand Prix of Nashville (July 18), rather than the next race - Grand Prix of Indianapolis (May 9). Also, is there why chance the date and race start could be brought in?

I actually use the F1 card as well, it's great! They're completely different series'. There doesn't seem a way to alter it for other series. Apples and oranges.
