SUMIT KUMAR // BACKEND & PLATFORM ENGINEER

Software Engineer II @ Belden · Go · Kubernetes · AWS

Terminal: build reliable systems; explore networks and distributed systems; ship developer tools

Portfolio GitHub Email

$ cat about.txt

I'm a backend engineer building reliable APIs, cloud-native services, and tools that make developers' lives easier. At Belden India, I work on EdgeService Gateway (ESGW) application orchestration.

My day-to-day work centers on Go, Kubernetes, and AWS. Outside work, I explore networking, media tooling, peer-to-peer communication, and deployment infrastructure through personal projects.

sumit@github:~$ printenv ENGINEERING_FOCUS

BACKEND = Go / microservices / API performance
PLATFORM    = Kubernetes / AWS / containers / GitOps
SYSTEMS = concurrency / networking / async processing
PRINCIPLES = readable code / observable services / reliable delivery

$ cat production-highlights.md

Selected results from my production engineering work:

Signal Result Work behind it
p99 API latency 60% reduction PostgreSQL query optimization and Redis caching
database CPU 70% → 20% More efficient queries and database access patterns
service availability 99.9% Monitoring, operational improvements, and proactive troubleshooting
orchestration APIs 15+ Go APIs Cloud-native application management

I also work with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry for observability, and Helm, ArgoCD, and CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and lifecycle management.

01 / ClipPlay

Desktop-first media discovery and playback. A dedicated media application exploring extraction, playback workflows, local processing, and integrations with external services.

focus: desktop architecture · media workflows · cross-platform development

02 / Unmark

Local media processing in the browser. A privacy-focused project exploring image and video operations on the user's device, reducing the need to send media to a server.

focus: browser APIs · client-side execution · image and video processing

03 / goyt

A Go-native media extraction and download toolkit. An experimental project inspired by yt-dlp, exploring extensible extractors, stream selection, download orchestration, and FFmpeg post-processing.

stack: Go · HTTP · FFmpeg

focus: retries · cancellation · resumable downloads · CLI tooling

Source →

04 / P2PShare

Peer-to-peer file transfer across devices. A networking project exploring encrypted communication, peer connectivity, and chunked, resumable transfers so interrupted work can continue.

stack: Go · Swift · WebRTC · TCP · AES-GCM

focus: peer discovery · ICE / STUN / TURN · transfer state management

05 / CrossKVM

Share a keyboard and mouse across computers on a LAN. A cross-platform project exploring low-latency input forwarding, device discovery, connection liveness, and recovery after disconnects.

stack: Go · TCP · UDP · macOS · Windows

focus: input handling · peer discovery · reconnection · latency instrumentation

06 / Runway / Shipd

A Go-native, self-hosted deployment platform. Inspired by Vercel, this project explores the path from source code to running containers: webhook-triggered builds, background jobs, and deployment orchestration with hookd and buildd services.

stack: Go · Gin · PostgreSQL / pgx · Redis · Asynq · Docker

focus: build pipelines · container lifecycle · deployment state tracking
