Program for Workgroup Funded Development
The Eclipse Foundation, through the Open VSX Working Group, has funds available to developers to address implementation and deployment priorities for the Open VSX Registry.
At the Eclipse Foundation, open source projects progress using developers who are employed by members, self-employed or volunteers. The Open VSX working group was formed to ensure the continued availability and longevity of the Open VSX Registry.
Since it was formed in May of 2023 the working group has been sponsoring the deployment, hosting, administration and maintenance of the Open VSX Registry. Indeed, one of the main reasons for forming an industry collaboration in support of the Open VSX Registry was to ensure the infrastructure and engineering resources were in place in order to make regular updates, diagnose problems, remediate vulnerabilities and make enhancements.
- Adhere to the principles of transparency and openness.
- Complement the existing community development efforts.
- Encourage a “multiplying effect” where community participation is amplified by this funding program’s undertakings.
- Ensure the work fits within the overall working group program plan and budget.
The Eclipse Foundation manages the process for contracting development work for the Open VSX Registry with GitHub issue labels in https://github.com/EclipseFdn/open-vsx.org.
The labels are:
- Work to be Bid - Work being defined or readied to be communicated for bids
- Bid Solicitation - Work that is out for bid
- Contract Awarded - Contract signed and work underway
- Contract Complete - Work complete and signed off on
