3D printed touchpad stops working - i2c stops responding

I think this printed touchpad frame causes a grounding/static issue. It started completely dieing on me and would not come back. First time it was dead for 4 days until a reset brought it back. Since then it appears a motherboard reset will fix it.

When I have some time, I'm going to experiment with trying to ground it better, which I think is the cause. I have metal strip like this that I will try.

From our mechanical engineer:

The all-plastic structure is more flexible and can deform, causing Z-height variation and pogo pin contact issues.
PCBA Z-height adjustment can improve contact, but cannot guarantee it due to 3D-print deformation variation and interference risk.
