Redirecting automatically to .onion domain always, without option, is useful. But without being able to disable it for some specific use-cases (for example if something is not working on .onion domain but is working on clearnet site) makes it less convenient.
Disabling it from manage extensions page every time is possible but inconvenient. This feature makes it easier. Clicking the toolbar icon toggles between enabled and disabled.

Limitations (or feature?):
This setting is not saved (yet), so it will reset to enabled after browser restart for example. The setting is universal and not tab-specific.
