Just to get an starting idea how such a task could look like.
Other possibilities:

• stuff like collecting/sorting dirty laundry before washing
• loading the washer
• interaction with the machine e.g. pouring detergent, pressing buttons starting machine

I really like this test, just some random ideas to discuss:

• For the first year maybe we should define a set of possible clothes: t-shirt, towel, pants and a sweater. I say this because there are a lot of weird shaped pieces of clothing whose way of folding may not be common sense.
• Maybe give points for detecting what type of clothing it is, this would help motivate teams that can't fold to at least attempt something in this task, also is the first step to folding
• I liked the idea about putting detergent, but the task seems to be: removing the clothes from the from the washing machine and folding and not cleaning the clothes. And if the focus is folding clothes maybe changing to cleaning and folding may be a bit too much (cleaning could involve picking clothes from the floor, placing inside the washing machine, pouring detergent and closing the washing machine)
• Some pieces of clothing are easier to fold than others. (towel is easier than a sweater or pants)
