Does Proton's wine accept workarounds for non steam games?

I ask as I would like to add a similar patch to this #179 for Metal Gear Solid 1's GOG release, but since it's not on Steam I have no idea if its acceptable. And as all main forks of Proton pull from here directly I can't patch those projects individually.

Understandable If the answer is no, but I would just prefer to ask before making a PR.

Hopefully I understand correctly. If you mean simply using Steams Proton to run non Steam games, try first adding it as a "non steam game" in your Steam Library then launching it through there since that should force it to use Proton under Steams settings properly. If not it might need some manual configuration to run!
