##The Background##
-
Matt (CfB co-organizer) built a quick prototype during a hackathon, which allows someone to text public transportation services for real-time updates. Real-time T and bus information is readily available for people with smart phones, but not those who have only text and voice options. We want to fix that!
-
Code for Boston wants to involve more human-centered design concepts and co-creative processes in its projects. Becoming more community-driven is also a chief initiative of Code for America, our parent organization.
##Project Goals##
We will conduct design research into this space: the public transportation experience for riders with low information access. We will transform our learnings and insights into user stories that will inform the development of Matt's app -- we may even find that Matt should pivot away from the original prototype entirely. We will be documenting our efforts and challenges along the way, so that eventually we have a template for other impact-oriented projects at CfB.
##Our Design Prompt##
How can we improve the public transportation experience of riders with low information access?
##Current Status##
We are currently preparing to conduct research about how Text the T can best serve users. Do people need features we never thought of? Is one of our awesome ideas not quite as awesome as we originally thought? By going into the community and asking these questions directly, we hope to find out.
