I've made a bunch of individual Pull Requests to upgrade parts of this repository.

However, merging them all will cause a bunch of conflicts. This pull request combines them all into a single PR with the conflicts already sorted.

This covers:

For the purposes of review, you may wish look at each of those individually to understand the changes.

(Fixes #832)

@lucas42 Have you heard from @janl about getting this merged? Seems like the main repo hasn't had any commits since 2023.

@jedidja no, I've not heard anything since I raised these PRs a year ago. I don't think this project is being actively maintained.

@lucas42 Wow that's unfortunate :( You obviously put a ton of work into this stuff and I'm sure it's beneficial for everyone to keep this maintained...hmm. Any thoughts about forking it perhaps? (I appreciate that may be a ton of work you have no interest in doing as well)

@janl Any thoughts?

Before people start pouring a lot of effort into a fork, please consider that there are more Mustache implementations for JavaScript:

  • Hogan is end of life, but it still works, is more up to date with the spec than Mustache.js, and has a command line tool as well.
  • Wontache (which I maintain) is very new, but covers the spec 100% and is being actively maintained. I accept merge requests (and you can login to GitLab with your GitHub account)!

(There is also Milk, but that one went out of maintenance almost immediately in 2011.)

@jedidja I did publish my collective changes to npm last year, so I could include it in one of my projects: https://www.npmjs.com/package/mustache-dynamic-names

But I don't really want to become the sole maintainer of a fork relied on by others.
