Style guidelines

Referencing external documents

There are different ways of referencing external documents from the white paper:

  • hyperlinks in the text

  • references to entries in the bibliography section

Each method has its advantages: hyperlinks in the text can be followed with a single action from the reader. Following the bibliography route takes more effort. However, when the white paper is printed on paper, hyperlinks can not be resolved, so then a bibliography entry is more useful. Also, we can not guarantee that all hyperlinks will keep working in the future. A bibliography entry could provide enough information to find the external document nonetheless. So the advice is to use both methods of referencing, whenever possible.

Content

This GitHub repository contains the content for an OGC White Paper.

  • document.adoc - the main White Paper document with references to all sections

  • remaining adocs - each section of the White Paper document is in a separate document

    • follow directions in each document to populate

  • figures - figures go here

  • images - Image files for graphics go here. Image files for figures go in the figures directory. Only place in here images not used in figures (e.g., as parts of tables, as logos, etc.)
