v5.3.2

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 04 Oct 11:35

A patch release: environment variables arrive as typed, and Portuguese says "dashboard".

  • Environment variables arrive as typed. The application reads its variables through a shell, so a value with a space or a character such as $, &, ; or | was cut short or expanded, and the app received it empty or changed. Adding or editing a variable now sends such values in quotes: single quotes, or double quotes when the value has a single quote. Simple values, and values already wrapped in one pair of quotes (such as "${HOST}:3000", which refers to another variable), are sent unchanged. The Square Cloud CLI quotes the same way. Variables saved with earlier versions are not changed; edit again any value that lost characters.
  • Portuguese says "dashboard". The Brazilian Portuguese strings used "painel" where the rest of Square Cloud says "dashboard".

v5.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 29 Sep 07:56

A maintenance release: up-to-date dependencies, ignore rules that follow git more closely, and Square Cloud named as the author.

  • Ignore rules follow git more closely. A \ makes the next character literal (\#notes.txt, \*), and only trailing spaces are trimmed from a rule, never tabs. The Square Cloud CLI matches the same way, so both upload the same files.
  • Square Cloud is the author. The Marketplace listing names Square Cloud as the author, with João Otávio Stivi and João Gabriel Tonaco as contributors.
  • Dependencies. jszip 3.10.2 and ignore 7.0.10 in the extension; @vscode/vsce 4, ovsx 1.2, Biome 2.5.14 and pnpm 11.28.2 for development. pnpm audit reports no known vulnerabilities.
  • Publishing. CI runs on Node 24, a failed registry no longer cancels the other one mid-publish, and a publish can be retried from the Actions tab.

v5.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 29 Sep 07:40

A new first-run experience, a redesigned side bar and five more languages.

Highlights

  • Get Started walkthrough. Square Cloud: Get Started opens a ten-step guide on the Welcome page, with an illustration and working buttons for each step: connect, the squarecloud.app file, upload and commit, logs and metrics, snapshots, databases, workspaces, GitHub deploys and edge analytics.
  • Sign-in that teaches the flow. Connect, paste the code on the approval page, done. The code sits in eight slots with a copy button, a ring counts down to its expiry, and a short list explains in plain words what VS Code will be able to do.
  • A dashboard with the website's look. Live status and RAM for every application, skeletons while loading, illustrated empty and problem states (offline, rate limited, expired code, no plan) that each offer the next step, and paging with a filter for long application lists.
  • Eight languages. English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese, the languages of the Square Cloud website.
  • Commands from anywhere. Application and database actions run from the command palette and ask which one to use, and pickers only offer what fits (Start lists stopped applications, metrics only applications with 512 MB or more).

Worth knowing

  • One ignore file for the extension and the CLI. Both read squarecloud.ignore with the same defaults, which now also leave out .git, .github and .vscode. .gitignore is no longer read in its place, since it often lists what the application needs to run, like .env.
  • Every window follows the account. Connecting or disconnecting in one VS Code window applies to the others.
  • Quieter when things go wrong. Offline and rate-limited refreshes keep what is on screen and retry on their own instead of showing error toasts, and "already running" is information, not an error.
  • Official SDK v6 under the hood, with the API's real error codes and messages.

v5.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 13 Aug 04:13

A patch for one thing: the status bar warned about a platform that was perfectly healthy.

It compared the service status against operational while the API reports online, so a green platform rendered as a yellow warning reading "Square Cloud — online". The comparison has been there since 5.0.0; it only became noticeable in 5.2.0, when the new side bar footer started reading the same field and got it right — and the two disagreeing on screen is what made it legible.

Both surfaces now share one predicate, because two separate lists of accepted words drift apart again the moment the platform adds one.

A genuinely degraded status also puts the platform's own message in the tooltip now, instead of showing a warning with nothing behind it.

v5.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 13 Aug 03:47

Sign in without handing over your account's master key, and a side bar that shows your account instead of four collapsible trees.

Connect account

The extension now asks the platform for an authorization of its own instead of asking you to paste an API key. It is scoped to what the extension actually calls, lasts 90 days, and you can revoke it at any time under Account → Security.

Approval happens in the browser. The side bar shows an eight-character code and copies it to your clipboard; the approval page asks for it. Only approve if the code on the page matches the one in your editor — that check is what stops someone else's approval from linking your editor to their account.

It works over Remote SSH and Codespaces too: the flow completes by polling, so it no longer depends on the browser being able to reach the machine running the extension.

Prefer a token created by hand in the dashboard? Other ways to sign in still takes one.

A new side bar

One panel instead of four trees: your account with plan and memory, applications with a live status dot and current CPU/RAM, databases, workspaces, and platform health in the footer.

Click a row to expand its details. Hover for start/stop, restart and logs. The star marks a favourite and pins it to the top. Right-click a row — or use its ⋯ button — for the full action menu, now grouped by purpose with destructive actions kept apart.

Actions that could only fail are no longer offered: edge analytics appear only for applications that serve a domain, metrics only above 512 MB, and only the applicable half of start/stop.

Fixes

  • The views could get stuck on "Loading..." forever. A refresh that failed returned without marking the load as finished, so a failed refresh was indistinguishable from one still running — and nothing was reported. It now always settles and says what went wrong.
  • A network blip could sign you out. Any failed check dropped the stored credential; only an actual rejection from the API does now. Pasting a bad key no longer deletes the one already working either.
  • The realtime console was burying your output. The stream carries resource metrics alongside log lines, several frames a second, and every frame was being printed. Only your application's output is shown now, with indentation preserved.
  • Stopping an app took seven seconds to show. Lifecycle actions now follow the status and update as soon as it actually changes.
  • Favouriting appeared to do nothing — the star now shows next to the application name and the list updates immediately.
  • An expired authorization prompts you to reconnect instead of reporting an invalid key.
  • Three commands had wrong or untranslated titles: Unfavorite read "Favorite", and Commit and Snapshot were never translated.

v5.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@JoaoOtavioS JoaoOtavioS released this 13 Jul 01:06

Migration to @squarecloud/api v5 plus a smoother upload flow and smarter rate-limit handling. This release ships the full 5.1.0 changeset together with the 5.1.1 fix below.

5.1.1 — Fixes

  • Database version picker now offers the major version keys documented by the API (PostgreSQL 17, MySQL 9, MongoDB 8, Redis 7) instead of full point releases.

5.1.0 — Added

  • Upload: workspace folder picker — open workspace folders are offered first when uploading a new application; "Browse..." still opens the OS dialog for any other folder.
  • Upload: post-upload actions — the success toast now shows the detected runtime (language + version) and offers Open dashboard and Copy ID buttons.
  • Upload: client-side size guard — zips over 100 MB fail fast with a hint to extend squarecloud.ignore, before any bytes are uploaded.
  • Realtime: automatic reconnection — when the server-side connection TTL closes the stream, the extension reconnects after a short backoff (with a [Reconnecting...] marker) instead of silently ending. Stopping the stream yourself never reconnects.
  • Realtime: robust error handling — HTTP refusals from the stream endpoint (connection limit reached, deleted app) now surface a localized message and stop cleanly; streams that die immediately are treated as refusals instead of being reconnected in a loop.
  • Database creation: version picker — the free-text version prompt was replaced with a QuickPick of the version keys currently accepted per engine, plus an Other version... escape hatch so the command keeps working when the platform rotates versions.
  • Database creation: copy password — alongside the connection URL (still copied automatically), a Copy password button is offered, since credentials are shown only once at creation.
  • Localised messages for the standardized error codes — plan limits (applications/members/workspaces/load balancers), insufficient memory, upload aborted/too large, domain validation, metrics support, realtime connection cap, snapshot processing/restore in progress, and cluster maintenance — in all three languages.

5.1.0 — Changes

  • Migrated to @squarecloud/api v5 (^4.0.1 → ^5.0.0).
  • Unknown error codes now fall back through the SDK's canonical alias table before showing the generic message, so legacy code names still map to friendly messages during the API's naming transition.
  • Background status refreshes rejected with a rate limit are retried once after a 10s backoff instead of waiting for the next poll cycle.
  • Post-action toasts (upload, delete, database created, certificate downloaded) share a single locale-safe action-button helper instead of per-command boilerplate.

5.1.0 — Docs

  • README rewritten: full feature walkthroughs (upload vs commit, ignore-rule resolution, realtime limits, snapshot quotas, one-time database credentials), command reference with IDs, rate-limit behaviour, security notes and an expanded troubleshooting section.

5.1.0 — Dependencies

  • @squarecloud/api → 5.0.0.
  • typescript 6.0.3 → 7.0.2.
  • @biomejs/biome → 2.5.3 (config migrated to the new preset field; static resources/ assets excluded from linting).
  • @types/node → 26.1.1, @vscode/vsce → 3.9.2, ovsx → 1.0.2, concurrently → 10.0.3, esbuild → 0.28.1, ignore → 7.0.6.
  • @types/vscode intentionally kept at 1.120 to match engines.vscode — bumping it would raise the minimum supported VSCode version.
