For this project, our client is the International Business Machine Corporation (IBM), a globally recognised
multinational technology company. We will be corresponding with John McNamara
(J0nnymac@uk.ibm.com), the current lead for all UK university IBM programmes. IBM’s motivation is to
increase engagement and completion of their SkillsBuild platform, which provides free online courses in
areas such as cybersecurity, AI, and data analytics. Currently, their AI-course follows an older e-learning
model, where students are passively interacting with the modules. IBM's goal is to create a more active
learning journey.
IBM has requested we develop a narrative-driven role-playing game (RPG) that mirrors the learning path
of IBM SkillsBuild, specifically of the AI course, as our solution to their goal. Students will be able to have
an active, immersive, and personalised learning experience by embarking on quests that represent
learning modules with AI integration and storylines based on user choices. The system’s purpose is to
improve engagement and completion rate of earning SkillsBuild credentials, hence ultimately aiding
students in obtaining the skills needed to pursue related careers in AI
