In high velocities, the air resistance force will apply "pressure" against the surfaces above water. This pressure depends on the direction of movement, so that triangulated regions of the vessel hull that are parallel to the movement direction would get zero resistance compared to regions that are perpendicular to the movement direction (which will feel heavy resistance).
Multiplying by cosTheta would represent this behavior. This fixes an issue where sideways resistance forces would prevent a vessel from turning when it reaches high speeds.
