Announcing Everest for Education*
We are happy to announce our new Everest for Education program, which aims to put the power of Everest into the hands of schoolchildren.
The Everest for Education system will be very easy to set up, only requiring the invoking of glacier-install once.
It will contain additional security measures, such as a read only filesystem, that will be configurable through a sysadmin.
Transitioning from LFS to CLFS
We are utilizing CLFS as a guide for tarball releases, instead of LFS. We feel as if busybox is better suited for our distro than GNU.
Everest tarball releases are on hold until more packages are ported to Glacier
Title says it all. I feel as if Everest's development has kicked off at a steady rate. In order to deliver an actually functioning distro, rather than simply a rootfs tarball, I will be suspending new tarball releases until all important system packages have been ported to https://github.com/everest-linux/glacier-pkgs
You can track the development of Glacier, and install it on your existing distro at https://github.com/everest-linux/glacier
Everest Linux Summit 0.0.1-systemd-rc Installation Tarball has been released
The tarball containing the necessary tools to install Everest Linux Summit has been released. Note that this is a pre-release and as such may be unstable. Please report these issues to us as soon as possible.
Almost done
The LFS build booted successfully. Now all I need to do is configure the network, package manager, and graphical environment, and we’re ready to release.
Progress
The new LFS build boots into GRUB but does not boot further. The problem is definitely related to /etc/fstab. Once this is fixed the basic framework for the installation ISO should be in place.
Changing our logo
Just today I realized that Cinnamon's logo is very similar to ours. I changed the logo color from orange to purple to avoid any possible confusion.
Edit: changed it again lol
Preparing for release 1.0
The first Everest release is due sometime at the beginning of February.
Everest is licensed under the GNU GPL v3.0
