One subset of CAD use cases that Fornjot should support, is 2D CAD: creating 2-dimensional shapes, not only for the purpose of creating 3D shapes out of them, but for export to 2D file formats. This would open up a wide array of use cases, like laser cutting, water jet cutting, engraving, 2D-only machining, etc.
No due date•5/5 issues closedAn important step towards an MVP for Fornjot: This milestone focuses on a basic but solid set of modeling features. A user can create sketches out of straight line segments (polygons), extrude those sketches into shapes, and use constructive solid geometry to combine those shapes. This basic feature set is really solid, not leading to any crashes or weird errors, regardless of how those features are used in the model code. More experimental features that are not as solid are clearly marked, possibly requiring some kind of opt-in from the user.
