Laser Monitor

This circuit will monitor a laser cutter's filter control and air input, and ensure both are operating properly when the laser is on. If not, warn the user.

Setup

  • Connect the fume extractor control line to the female DB9 of the laser monitor.
    • If using V1.0.0 hardware, must invert the pinout with an adapter cable.
    • 5-1, 9-6, 4-2, 8-7, 3-3, 7-8, 2-4, 6-9, 1-5
  • Connect the male DB9 on the laser monitor to the laser cutter's fume control output.
  • Cut the air line to the laser cutter, and install the flex host T-joint.
  • Connect 3mm ID tube to the air transducer on the PCB, and the other side to the T-joint.
  • Connect 12v power supply.
  • Connect laser monitor via USB to computer, open serial terminal with baud rate 115200.
  • Send the following config commands;
    • Set the start delay with d [ms], i.e. "d 10000" for a 10-second startup
      • Make sure to set the same startup time in the Epilog laser
    • Set the air pressure threshold with a [val], i.e. "a 7000000"
      • Tip: use "c" to see the current air monitor reading to determine a threshold appropriate for your system.
    • Set the filter full warning with w [0/1], i..e "w 1" if you want to be warned when the filter is reporting full
      • This does not disable the fault response, just the low pressure filter warning.
    • You should be all set! Make sure to do tests on the system.
