guess my favorite color.

History

Credit where credit's due, when I initially started using color palettes, I first started with the all so (in)famous catppuccin's macchiato palette. And it was pretty good. I was happy with it for a while, but after a few months, I started to get tired of the "reddishy" tint a lot of the colors had, especially the darker base colors.

Coincidentally, around this time I stumbled across a screenshot of nuxshed's dotfiles, specifically the hydrangea colorscheme.

I really liked the both of them, but neither of them were what I was looking for. So, I decided to make my own, somewhere inbetweeen the two.

Usage

For ease of use, all of the colors are defined in colors.json as regular hex codes, at the root directory of this repo. I did this so it would be easy for others to simply pull the one file and use it from there, though I have no idea whether or not that's really practical. That aside, colors.json serves as the one source of truth for this entire repository; README.md is automatically generated with nix run, and this repository's flake also derives its values from colors.json. That's the main way I access this color palette.

flake.nix outputs colors, where colors.${color} is a attrset of different formats for the chosen color. See Colors for the options.

Each colors.${color} has the attributes:

hex

The regular hex code format you'd see anywhere, e.g.:

"#ffffff"

hexNoHash

Same as hex, with the hash removed:

"ffffff"

hexa

A simple function that takes an integer, x, and returns hex with the hexidecimal form of x appended. Quite literally:

hexa = alpha: alpha
    |> trivial.toHexString
    |> (x: hex + x);

Thus:

hexa 127

Returns:

"#ffffff7f"

rgb

Similar to rgb() in css:

"rgb(255, 255, 255)"

rgba

Similar to hexa, essentially:

rgba = alpha: "rgba(255, 255, 255, ${alpha})"

Thus:

rgba 127

Returns:

"rgba(255, 255, 255, 127)"
