Licensing and copyright

FABM consists of two parts:

• the framework itself (everything except the src/models directory)
• a collection of third-party biogeochemical models (the src/models directory).

As a whole, FABM is released under the GNU General Public License version 2. This covers the framework itself; biogeochemical models distributed with FABM are either (implicitly) covered by the GPLv2 as well, or optionally by a more permissive license such as LGPL, BSD, or MIT.

The copyright of the framework itself resides with Bolding & Bruggeman ApS, as they are at present the sole authors of the underlying source code. The copyright of the individual biogeochemical models remains with the original authors of those modules, that is, with the responsible institutes or scientists.
