Martin Schreiber discusses some uses cases

Parallelize in space and time concept. Coarse calculation to use for driving a higher resolution calculation. Different instances responsible for different time regions, hence the parallelization in time. Examples in nuclear fusion, weather prediction.

Where does the maleable MPI come in? Would like a way to expand/contract resources associated with the calcuation(s). Static MPI doesn't support this model very well. Collaborating with EMWF researchers.

Dan mentions Epigramm project which is also collaborating with EMWF. Suggests synergy between Martin Schreiber's research and the Epigramm effort. IFS application. Multi-physics application.
